"Les Fermes de Marie isn't just another five-star resort-it's a place where you feel like you've been invited into the Sibuet family's private mountain chalet. We've had the pleasure of personally knowing Marie, who, along with her brother, runs this pristine collection of hotels. We first fell in love with their properties at Villa Marie in Saint Tropez and Bastide de Marie in Provence, but Megève offers something entirely different: a true alpine escape."
"Marie and her brother took over the family business about ten years ago, continuing the legacy their parents began and expanding it into a unique combination of hotels, spas, restaurants, and even an epicerie. You can see the family touch everywhere-from the Pure Altitude spa line to the incredible dining options on the property. There's even a bit of cinematic fame here: Emily in Paris filmed a Christmas episode in one of the chalets, and it looks just as magical in real life as it does on-screen.
Rather than coming in winter, we decided to visit in the early days of fall. The property, open on weekends, was humming with guests, yet it never felt crowded. We stayed in one of the family rooms-a comfortable setup with a second bedroom and a cozy living room.
Our son loved the communal spaces, filled with grandfather clocks, chess boards, and tic-tac-toe, which he discovered for the first time on this trip. I can only imagine how idyllic it would be in winter, curled up by the fire with a good book or playing board games as snow falls outside.
The Sibuet family has a deep history here-Marie's grandfather was a baker, and her grandparents worked in the hotel industry. Her parents started this hotel group, and today, they still live in Megève. It's no wonder everything feels so personal. We explored the grounds, discovering the hotel's beautiful garden where our son could run freely, checking out the herbs and the chickens. Every detail, from the charming décor to the warm hospitality, makes you feel like you've been welcomed into someone's home. That's the real magic of Les Fermes de Marie-it feels authentic. The entire experience is so well-curated, it's as if the Sibuet family invited you to their chalet and took care of everything."
"Les Fermes de Marie has some standout dining options, including Le Restaurant Traditionnel. Located in the main chalet, the restaurant captures the essence of Savoyard cuisine in a setting that feels both cozy and refined. On Saturdays, one of the must-try dishes is the fire-roasted entrecôte, slow-cooked over the large fireplace that dominates the room. The result is a perfectly charred and juicy cut of beef with a deep, smoky flavor that feels comforting in the alpine setting. To complement the meat, we enjoyed a glass of Gigondas, a robust red wine from the Rhône Valley. Its bold flavors were strong enough to stand up to the richness of the beef but balanced enough not to overwhelm it.
For dessert, an adjacent room offers a tempting buffet of homemade pastries, from buttery tarts to delicate cakes. The experience here is simple yet indulgent, and Marie Sibuet takes pride in offering food that is both rustic and elegant, much like the hotel itself.
What makes the Sibuet family's influence in Megève even more special is their collection of off-site restaurants around the village, open during the winter months. So if you're visiting when the snow blankets the town, you'll have even more chances to experience their renowned cuisine beyond the hotel grounds.
But perhaps the most memorable dining experiences on the property are L'Alpage des Fermes and Le Carnotzet. L'Alpage, a private mountain chalet lunch only accessible by 4×4 or a hike, is the ultimate alpine adventure (you can read more about that incredible day here). And Le Carnotzet, tucked away in the wine cellars of Les Fermes de Marie, offers an intimate evening of fondue and raclette that will make you rethink everything you thought you knew about melted cheese."
"One of the things we loved most about Les Fermes de Marie is that it's family-friendly without being family-centric. There are amenities for everyone-a family pool as well as an adult-only pool and spa for those looking for a quiet escape. It's also a dog-friendly property, and we saw plenty of happy pups during our stay. Whether you're traveling with kids, dogs, or just looking for a romantic getaway, there's a balance that makes everyone feel welcome.
We're already excited to return in the winter and experience more of what the Sibuet family has created in Megève. During the colder months, they open several off-site restaurants around the village, giving you even more opportunities to enjoy their amazing cuisine. When the snow covers everything, it feels like the perfect excuse to head into town and explore beyond the hotel's cozy atmosphere. Whether you're dining at Les Fermes de Marie or one of their other spots, you'll get that same authentic, warm alpine hospitality they've mastered. We can't wait.
